Well i hope everyone had a great new years and christmas!

Wow, its been a while since i last wrote in here. But I got your message Esther (happy  belated birthday!) so I will try and update you all.  Well, I geuss one of the reasons i don't write in here much is that, my life revolves around school.  I have no socail life or anything, im actually quite the hermit.  So really ALL i ever talk about now days is animals, especailly since school revolves around aniamls. I could go on forever about random animal facts.

Well lets see, I am in my Last and final semster in my program.  I really only have like 3 months left of school (and I can't wait) the last 6 weeks of school, each of us needs to go do a 5 week pracitcum at a Vet clinic, in order to graduate.  I have decided to go all out for it, and i will be flying out to Australia to do my praciticum.  7 weeks in Australia, why not? :) :) My flight is booked, accomidations are set, and the Vet clinic is expecting me. . The one of the best parts of it all is that the vet clinic is located right on the beach, and i will be staying in a costal town about 1 1/2 hours north of sydney.

Well lets see what else?  Ummmm, not sure what i am going to do once i am done my practicum.   The vet clinic in agassiz is dying to have me come back and work for them.  But in all honestly i have not fully decided what i  want to do.  Some days i think it would be so nice to move back (and be close to family and old freinds). and other days i think i could stay here (with my new freinds).   The good/bad thing about my occupatation is that there is a dire need for people with my education, i could go anywhere!  Having to many doors open can be confussing  :(   Ill figure it out eventually.

Well they say a picture is worth 1000 words, and since i don't know what to say i think i will just give you lots of pitcures to look at. Enjoy!

We had an exotic animal lab one day, and there were over 15 snakes, 8 gecko's, 2 turtles, 4 rabbits, 6 lizards, ect.. in our class at one time.  This is me and one of the small snakes, Its a long story but i at the moment only have access to a small amount of my photos ( i hate me digital camera) but once i  can, mabey ill post the one with me and the big snake (he was over 8 feet long)

PIC00546 Sorry I dont know how to flip the picture, this is the first time i have even been able to put picutres in my post, so i am slowly learning how to make the most of this blog site. Anyways here i am working on a rabbit.

Well, its been a while since my last entry.  Unfortunatly this blog is more for someone else then it is for or about me.  But I'll do my best to update you'll soon. The reason for this blog is to get some info for a classmate of mine.  You see, near the end of this school year (end march to first week in May) each classmate goes on a "pracitcal".  And we are required to work X number of hours in certain animal related feilds, which works out to be about 5 weeks long.

Anyways my classmate Laura, is going to be working at the Vancouver Aquarium for those 5 weeks, and being from Alberta, she doesn't know anyone in the Vancouver area.  So she asked me if I could help her get some information, unfortunatly I know edmotnon better then Vancouver now. And i Know a lot of you guys live out there, or have.  So I was hoping you could help me!!!

What are some area not to live in?  What are better area's?  Is there an area that you would reccomend near the aquarium?  Or does anyone know of someone with a room/ couch to rent for a bit?  Anyways you get the idea of the information that I am looking for, so any Input would be very helpful, and appreacitated by both of us.

And I will update my blog site soon, Just life is very busy lately.

Well today was pretty neat, we neutered a RABBIT. we have been learning lately about anesthesing exotic animals and wildlife in lecture so today during lab we neutered a rabbit.  It was so cool,  If find most of this section really neat, learning about the drugs used to take down large wild animals (like lions, bears, ect) and how to  (like blow darts, dart guns)  Its crazy most of the drugs used to do this is so lethal to us, that one drop of most of the drugs would put any human into complete cardiac or liver failure in seconds to minutes, leading to instant death for humans.  And all it has to do is come in contant with our skin and not be washed off Immedaitely, or get splashed in the eye.  I thought that was crazy.  Its pretty dangerous stuff.  Most of the drugs that i handle are, but at least with the ones i handle daily/weekly, if a mistake happens i have more time then a few minutes to get help.

What else is new?  I get to skip school tomoro, to do my "calving shift"  Every one in the class goes in groups to a ranch about 1/2 hour outside of edmonton to assist a Beef farmer in his calving season.   Its really neat to see all these births of calves.  The only things is we got dumped on with snow over the weekend, and it is like past my knee's, so we have to trudge around in knee deep snow all day looking for cows that are going into labour in a herd of about 400 cows.  But its lots of fun, and its so nice to get outside again.

Well i should go, I have a huge exam on wednesday that i need to study for.

Well its been a while since my last entry.  I just finished my "reading break" from school, i went up to north (northern alberta) for the week and spent it with one ot my best friends and her family.  I have never watched so much "dora the explorer" in my life, a lot of my time was also put to blowing bubbles and building dulpo towers with her 2 1/2 year old daughter.  It was great, I think i needed to mentally drop to such a mental frame, so i could rest my brain more completly.  it was time well spent.

well 2 more months and then this school year will be over, wow, where has time gone, it will be here before i know it.  Yikes, that means finals are right around the coner.  oh well.

So one of my new skills that i have aquired is; to give "testicular blocks".  The other day in my anestheisa lab, we were doing a cat neuter (when a males cat gets his balls removed) and i got to inject lidocaine (a freezing agent) into his testicles so that the procedure would be less painful for the cat.  YA, there is rarely a dull day at school, and i honestly beleive that people who want to go into this sort of line of work are truely a speacial breed of people.  There are not many people out there that mind looking at poop and urine under the micorscope for hours, or get excited to get a blood sample from a jugular vein.  Most people who are not from are class think that we are a bit strange, and i don't blame them.

So what else is new?  I adopted a cat about 3 weeks ago.  He was a rescue that one of the 2nd years found, he was in real rough shape, but with some time and some love, he has turned into one of the best cats i have ever had. He is so cuddly he basically lives on me when i am home from school.  It is so nice to have a cat again.  I named him "Tank"  he is so manly looking he needed a real tough name.

Me and Tank

Well i finally figured out how to attatch pics to this thing, now hopefully i will attach pics more often.  Until then.
